LATHEM TIME LAUNCHES LTR-GPS SATELLITE RECEIVER/ CLOCK SYNCHRONIZER FOR LATHEM’S MASTER AND WALL CLOCK SYSTEMS

Global Positioning Satellite Receiver Ensures That Time is Synchronized to the Second

ATLANTA, Ga. – February 9, 2005 -- Lathem Time Corporation, one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of master and wall clock systems, today announced the launch of a GPS satellite receiver that synchronizes its master and wall clock systems to the second. Many of these products are used in schools, factories and airports nationwide.

Lathem’s LTR-GPS Satellite Receiver/ Clock Synchronizer is a Global Positioning Satellite receiver used to access the accurate date and time signal transmitted each second by satellites around the globe. The unit receives, analyzes and reformats the satellite data for compatibility with Lathem’s family of master clocks, schedule bell ringers and digital wall clocks. An optional interface cable also allows the unit to provide a periodic “plain text” Time Stamp transmission that can be read and utilized by any computer with an RS-232 Port.

Using GPS synchronization, all master and wall clock systems can consistently display the same, accurate time. “Gone is the confusion that arises when company wall clocks, schedule bells and time clocks may be in disagreement by several seconds, due to an inaccurate initial setting or drift of the local reference frequency,” said Ellery Potash, Lathem Time senior engineer who designed the system. “With GPS synchronization, there is no disagreement.”

John Box, a Lathem dealer with Atlanta Time, described the system as the “wave of the future in timekeeping that gives customers peace of mind.”

“Customers would be interested in this product for tasks such as scheduling break times,” Box said. “Lathem has a long history of manufacturing master clock systems. As technology improves, customers want to make sure their master clocks are synchronizing properly and keeping accurate time. The GPS system lets them do that.”

The LTR-GPS can synchronize up to 31 Lathem “slave” devices, over an RS-485 bus, up to 4,000 feet away. Additional devices and extended distances may be achieved using Lathem’s SWIFT485+ Repeater. A simple DIP-Switch setting allows the installer to customize the unit for the local Time Zone and selective application of automatic Daylight Savings Time corrections. An installation tool is also provided to aid installers in locating the antenna for best signal reception.

Philip Seagraves, Lathem’s director of business development, said, “the LTR-GPS receiver provides automatic synchronization of time-critical business functions, like clock displays, schedule bells and time clocks, so that companies can focus on doing business, rather than worrying about the technicalities of back-office operations.”
