A Case Study: Morrettes

Morrette’s King Steak House in Schenectady, NY, a family
restaurant since 1947, specializing in Philly Cheesesteaks,
was looking for a low-cost, easy-to-use automated
timekeeping system for its 16 employees. The company was
using time sheets, but data entry became time consuming and
prone to human error. Lathem’s TouchStation™ Biometric
Time System became the solution, saving time and eliminating
buddy punching.
Problem:
Morrette’s had been using time sheets for its time and
attendance needs, according to Morrette’s president and
owner David Pasquariello. “Reading time sheets and data
input were laborious and prone to human error,” he said.
“Hours were overlooked or added and sometimes employees
inadvertently entered their hours on the wrong days. These
problems led to an increased workload to correct the
situation.” Pasquariello researched time management systems
on the Internet and found Lathem's web site (www.lathem.com).
He signed up to become a beta tester for TouchStation.
Solution:
Labor is a significant portion of any company’s budget and
to be able to manage it effectively, a manager or owner must
be able control it. Pasquariello chose TouchStation because
it eliminated human error and avoided employee buddy
punching, providing more control over labor management
costs. “Honesty and honor are qualities we desire for our
employees, but having the biometric TouchStation eliminates
any temptations that may surface without implying distrust
and eroding employee morale,” he said.
TouchStation attaches to a computer and comes with Lathem’s
PayClock EZ software that automatically calculates worked
hours including overtime, tracks sick and vacation time, and
provides 22 standard time and labor reports. The system will
export hours directly to most major payroll providers
including ADP and PayChex. It also offers seamless
integration with the latest QuickBooks accounting products
for a complete “touch-to-paycheck” solution. An optional
remote finger sensor, allows employees to clock in and out
at their own computers across a local area network.
“Biometrics appears to be the ultimate solution to problems
with existing time management tools,” Pasquariello said.
“The TouchStation system is intuitive and very easy to use,
and I would expect it to pay for itself over the course of
the first year’s service. The rest is money in your pocket.”
